Hi Nik, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Thank you for having me! I’ve been doing great, got a lot of things lined up for the year so I’m just excited.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “O.D.”?

Well “O.D.” was released on 1/18 and is now available on all digital outlets! Overall, this song goes against the stereotype that only women get too emotional and “attached” when dating someone. But men can be the same exact way! So the song expresses this in a subliminal, fun, and edgy way.

Did any event, in particular, inspire you to write this song?

I would say my personal experiences dating these types of men definitely inspired the song to be co-written with my team.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

Of course! We haven’t decided on a release date yet but definitely be on the lookout soon.

How was the recording and writing process?

Well as I mentioned, this song was co-written by my team and I, so it was definitely a group effort. When I’m creating, the beat is always important to me. If I’m really drawn into the sound, it’s easy to start writing or coming up with concepts so that’s how it went with this song.

What role does NYC play in your music?

I would say NYC has more-so played a major role in my artistry as a whole. I feel like as soon as I moved to NYC from Connecticut, I really broke out of my shell and became this fearless person I never knew. In a way, NYC is the reason why I even started pursuing music in the first place.

How does fashion and dancing influences your music and the other way around?

Well, dance influences my creative process for music. I’m drawn to music that makes my body want to move, whether it’s hip hop or contemporary movements… so that’s one of my main focuses when I’m creating music. On the other hand, I would say that my music influences my fashion because once a song is completed, I immediately see visual concepts in my head of how I would potentially look in a music video for the song.

Does the new single mean we can expect new material – how’s that coming along?

Yes, yes and yes. This single is just a taste of how my upcoming EP will sound. Throughout my career so far, I’ve only been dropping singles and every song has been very different from one another. So with this first project of mine, you’ll get a better understanding of my sound and who I am as an artist.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

I do have a title which will be announced very soon! But there is not a release date as of yet.

Any plans to hit the road?

I have a few shows already booked outside of NYC coming up but I’m still working towards touring. Hopefully, I’ll be able to tour my EP on the road this year… we’ll see!

What is happening next in Nik’s world?

I have more music to release, a new business venture that I am launching very soon, and the rest is in God’s hands. I’m just taking it day-by-day and staying on my grind no matter what. Thank you Vents Magazine for interviewing me and be sure to visit NIKHARTFIELD.COM for all my content!
