INTERVIEW: Hughie Mac

How would you classify your music?

I would classify my music as Retro or Classic Pop in primarily three genres Big Band, Country, and early Rock.

Who are some of your top 5 musical influences?

My top five musical influences would be Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, Ricky Nelson, Neil Diamond, and Glenn Campbell.

What do you want fans to take from your music?

I would hope that people would get a good feeling from my music, and that it brings back good memories.

How’s the music scene in your locale?

The music scene in my area is pretty much the same as in other areas of the country. There are all different sizes of places you can perform. I do a lot of performing at private parties as well as Senior Centers.

What is the best concert you have been to? What do you like most about playing live?

My favorite concert that I saw was Springsteen. I enjoy performing live because it gives me a chance to relate to the people.

Is there a song on your latest CD release that stands out as your personal favorite, and why?

It is hard to for me to pick a favorite from my recordings. I look upon all of them as my children. However, I do particularly like Les Bicyclette De Belsize and After the Lovin’ two songs made popular by Engelbert Humperdinck.

How have you evolved as an artist over the last year?

I have evolved as an artist by increasing my repertoire of songs and increasing my knowledge of music.  I am also doing a great deal of live performances.

If you could meet, play a gig, co-write a song, have dinner, have a drink with any band or artist (dead or alive) who would it be?

If I had my choice I would like to have dinner with Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley.

What’s next for you?

Eventually I will go back into the studio and record.
