Guest Singer releases new single “My Parallel” via Heist or Hit, and announces debut EP I’m Irrelevant Now

Guest Singer crafts dark party songs; anti-motivational anthems for the post-truth generation. Motorik kraut-rock, as well as more vibrant 80s synth-soaked influences colour the project, devised by Doncaster’s Jake Cope and comprising Paul Burdett and France Lahmar.

The second cut from this project is the glitchy, analogue march of My Parallel, which is also being used to announce his debut EP I’m Irrelevant Now (March 22nd). Listen here

Jake explains the thinking behind the tune – “My Parallel has duel meanings: the first concerns the notion of what could have been – what would I be doing right now had I taken a particular opportunity? The second looks at the presentation of self. How we re-skin our personalities to fit whatever social interactions we find ourselves part of.”

These ideas explored follow tenants of modern philosophy as well as those portrayed in pop culture, as in cult film Run Lola Run. It also naturally feeds into the ongoing thematic thread that takes over his upcoming EP, regarding presentation, and how we can get locked into specific interpretations of ourselves once down a certain causal path.

Surrounding himself with the arpeggiated decay of vintage synths, Guest Singer teamed up with producer Matt Peel (Eagulls, Pulled Apart By Horses, Menace Beach) to realise a vision that is as rich in its melodic geography as it is pointed in its textural delivery. Capable of moments of incredible grandeur, Jake steers his romantically doomy mentality through a landscape of dusky synth lines and jumpy Will Sergeant-esque guitars.
