INTERVIEW: DJ Angie Vu Ha

Hi Angie, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Hi, Thanks for having me. I’ve been great. I’m still overwhelmed with happiness of welcoming my daughter Emma- Rose to the world last August 13th. I’ve been very busy being a full time mommy. But I’m ready to come back to music this year 2019.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Let You Go”?

It’s a love song. I wanted so badly to write “Never Let you Go” but sometimes love is to let go. It’s about a girl who is so in love but has to let go of someone she loves deeply, the love of her life.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

It’s from my own experience with love and breakup. I want to share my feelings with everyone who has been there. Been so in love and had to let go.  Most people will eventually heal after a relationship ends, especially if both partners mutually agreed to separate. Sadly, it is a very different story if one partner walks out when the other is still deeply attached. That’s why it’s so hard to let go. It can be to let go of someone you love, or someone who doesn’t love you, someone who isn’t good for you, someone who isn’t right for you, someone who hurt you. Whatever the situation is, the song is about the pain of letting go.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

Yes, I already filmed “Let You Go” music video long ago. I found out I was pregnant the night before we filmed it. I only told the director Nicolas Capus and the main actor in the video, Michal Gajdosech and he changed the directing a bit because we had interrogation scenes that I had to be really active to punch and torture Michael. A bit about Michael, He’s Mr. Slovakia 2017 and won Best Body in the World and 3rd runner up Mr . Supranational 2017 (@migajdo). It’s pretty awesome to have him in the video. I’ve been pushing the release until these days because I wanted to focus on my pregnancy.

How was the recording  process?

This is a collaboration between me, producer Nathan C (@nathancdj) and singer Alice Ella (@aliceellagram) from the UK. I was in Paris so it was a lot of video sections and back and forth exchanging ideas.

How DJ Snake and Skrillex has influence your music?

They are both genius and pioneer in what they do. Skrillex brought dubstep to popularity and it became a stand alone genre. While DJ Snake is always one step ahead of everyone to set trend in the industry with his incredible sounds.  They are DJs and producers that moved on to producing tracks for trap, hip-hop and pop artists and gained huge success. They are young, talented and very inspiring. I get influenced not only by their sounds, but also their stories.

Do you tend to take a different approach when you are collaborating with someone else rather than in your own?

I love collaborating with different artists. For me, collaborating is the best way to grow as an artist today. Collaborations have been a way to create larger impact, through involving more people and hence it doesn’t change the way I create but more like pooling in the best of ideas, thoughts and skills in me. I have my strengths and weaknesses. The power of collaboration is that it helps me to perfect my strengths and look for help in developing those weaknesses. I don’t mind if someone else calls the shots as long as it’s a brilliant idea.

How has your experience travelling the world and getting to know other cultures has influence your music?

Music is to translating the artist’s feelings into sounds that connect people. The more I travel and see the world and getting to know different cultures, the more I feel and put those feelings into my sounds. It’s a powerful tool.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

Yes, I’m perfecting it. The next song is another love song the same dance pop genre.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

The song is called “You’ve got the love”, I plan to film a video clip and release it this summer.

Any plans to hit the road?

I do total breastfeeding so it’s been impossible to leave my baby alone. She will be 6 months in 2 days and I’m planning to introduce her to solid foods and formula so I can be more flexible.  I will spend a few more months in Paris to focus on producing before touring again when she’s 1 year old.

What else is happening next in Angie Vu Ha’s world?

I started my own record label Icon Global Records. So more songs and music videos this year. Besides some other projects with clothing and real estates. But music will be my main focus.
