Captivating British singer songwriter Benedict Cork is due to release his brand new single ‘Therapy’ on February 12. The track follows the release of his debut solo EP ‘Piano Tapes’ which was recorded live at Red Gate Recorders last September.
Resolute on storytelling through his songwriting, Hertfordshire-born Benedict allows his personal life experiences to define and shape his music. The results of this approach account for his powerful and emotional songs, of which ‘Therapy’ is a prime example.
Benedict said: “Last summer I began a course of therapy that has honestly been life changing for me. There’s an anxiety that I’ve always experienced since being a kid that started affecting my day to day life and it all got a little bit overwhelming. Like many young men, I’d never really spoken about my mental health. I find it much easier to write my thoughts and emotions down in song than to discuss them with the people I love.”
Early 2017, Benedict’s relationship of three years broke down. He parted ways with his band of two years and his manager of four. Leaving London heartbroken and dazed he fled to Stockholm, Sweden to work amongst some of his favorite artists and songwriters, finally finding the calm and clarity to fall in love with making music again.
“This song is my way of acknowledging to myself that I was a little afraid of what was going on inside my head, and admitting that’s it ok to not be ok. I really hope this song might help somebody who felt as lost as I did.”
Growing up in Bishop’s Stortford, Hertfordshire, Benedict Cork quickly made the move to London at aged 18 to kick-start his music career. After cutting his teeth in piano bars, it wasn’t long before he turned to songwriting. He honed his craft both in and out of bands, spending long days in the studio and nights playing in saloon bars.
Now living in London, Benedict has amassed a track record of collaborations, working with the likes of Adam Lambert, MNEK (Beyonce/Madonna), GRADES (Nao/Sinead Harnett), Lucas Nord (Tove Lo), Iain James (Emeli Sande/Anne Marie), Sandro Cavazza (Avicci/Lost Frequencies), Adam Argyle (Dua Lipa/Ella Eyre), Martin Sjølie (Sigrid), Toby Gad (John Legend/Kelly Clarkson) and Josh Record (Ella Henderson), in addition to supporting MØ and AlunaGeorge on tour across the UK.
