PREMIERE: Kadiri James Makes His Solo Debut With “Closer To You”

Kadiri Jamesloves his family, but can’t truly be himself around them. Young adults far and wide can relate to that yearning for a parental connection, and Kadiri immaculately describes the feeling in his explosive debut single, “Closer To You.” Though family issues are serious topic, Kadiri counteracts that with an upbeat pop melody.

“‘Closer To You’ is about the struggle to keep an honest, transparent and close relationship with my parents,” Kadiri said of the single. “While my mom and dad have always been hard working, loving and amazing, developing a bond with them isn’t easy. I’ve grown to build an invisible wall between us because of the expectations they’d have of me. I couldn’t tell them about my hardships, my love life and the trouble I’ve gotten myself into–I only told them what they wanted to know. I grew distant from them, and turned to my friends to talk about something personal instead. Seeing how close my friends are with their parents, I always wished I could be just as close, if not closer, to mine.”

Kadiri James is a Canada bred singer-songwriter characterized by his smooth, early 2000’s-reminiscent R&B vocals laid over modern production influenced by The Weeknd, Khalid and Justin Timberlake.

He studied Criminology/Environment at the University of Toronto, but knowing well where his heart was truly at, Kadiri paused his studies after two years to fully devote himself to a career in music. Kadiri took frequent trips to California starting in 2016 to meet up with producers and songwriters, who were impressed with Kadiri’s undeniable talent. He soon recorded a song for prominent American DJ/producer, Mahalo. The tune, “Here With Me,” was released under Perfect Havoc and Thrive Records in February 2018, and currently has more than 1.7 million streams on Spotify. Stepping into his solo music fresh off his wildly successful collaboration with Mahalo, Kadiri’s career is just getting started.
