Hi Lauren, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
Hi there! I am doing well. Thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to talk to you and your readers. I just started a new semester at college as a music major so I am always busy doing homework, writing music, and performing! I love keeping busy.
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Lead Us Back”?
It is basically a song about the gift of family, friends and memories you make when you think you are just having fun. Emotions ran very deep as I reconnected with my childhood and all the great memories. Especially my time with my Mami. I had so much support from everyone in my life during the writing process.
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
When I had decided to write this song, it was the week of my Grandmother’s birthday. I wrote the song, Lead Us Back, as a dedication to my Grandmother, Mami. Mami was the one who taught us the importance of family and was always there for each of us.
Any plans to release a video for the single?
I have actually released a video for “Lead Us Back”. It’s my first music video I have ever produced. I got to go back to Mami’s house and record the video there which made it ten times more special to me. The video is on my Youtube account (Laurenashlaie).
How was the recording and writing process?
The writing and recording process took about 3 months. Obviously most of the time is in the writing. Writing this song was one of the hardest songs I have written because I had to really tap into my emotions. I love the recording process. I spend about 2-3 hours in the recording studio. It’s a blast.
How does the success you have gained throughout your career has influence you personally as an artist or does that put pressure on you as you release new material?
Having my songs recognized by the music industry has been so wild to me. I am thrilled that so many people have told me how my music has touched their lives. I hope I can always do that. If you had asked me at the beginning of this journey if I thought I would be doing what I am doing now, I would’ve told you no. I never thought people would like my music this much. The positive feedback has been so unreal to me. It inspires me to write more songs about things I think about and feel. Songs people can connect to. I want to continue to grow as a singer and performer.
Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?
You can definitely expect new material! I am hoping for another release by July or the beginning of August.
What are some of the life choices you will be exploring on this new material?
The song I am working on is about being able to let go of life’s stresses and enjoy the moment you are in.
Any plans to hit the road?
I currently do not have any plans to hit the road. I am always looking for venues where I might be able to open for an act as well as local performances around Virginia, DC, Richmond and Maryland area.
