Roman The Cartoon is a multi-faceted Hip Hop artist, his musical journey embodies experimentation. LA based and Cincinnati native, Roman started rapping in high school as a means of sparking theatrical rap beefs between friends, who encouraged him to keep at it after recognising his talents.
Once Roman moved to LA, his creative side really started to flourish, he appeared in Southland on TNT, performed comedy at The Comedy Store and began working as a pop songwriter. Songwriting is where Roman The Cartoon really thrives, he landed huge writing gigs and wrote Airplane pt2, Love Yourself: Her and their number 1 release Idol with Nicki Minaj, which broke Taylor Swifts record for most views in 24hrs on YouTube.
Roman has been continuing to hone his own musical artistry, with his debut release Frontside reaching New Music Friday in both the UK and US along with Apple Music playlist addition US. Collaborating primarily with Paul White, the U.K. based multi instrumentalist hip-hop producer responsible for the bulk of production on Danny Brown’s critically acclaimed experimental rap album Atrocity Exhibition. Together, Roman and White recently released Cruella De Vil and create psychedelic and often cinematic sonic collages.
ROMAN EP is no different, full of psychedelic cloud rap, with White blending sounds sourced from all around the world and Roman The Cartoon rapping, singing and screaming his way through personal accounts.
Forever mysterious Roman The Cartoon speaks on the EP “ I had nothing to do with this project besides manifesting it by wishing hard to be a real rap boy. It’s so cool not having to put any time into stuff and just letting the universe do it for me. Now I have this sick EP and I never even had to take a break from my phone”
The Lead single from ROMAN EP is Holy Moment, with a heavy beat reminiscent of D12’s early days, complimented by Roman’s unpredictability, which means as a listener you are waiting in anticipation for his next move. Speaking on Holy Moment Roman says I wanted this one to feel like a Frankenstein monster, stitched together in a state of mania and moving all staggered and menacing.
