INTERVIEW: guardin

Hi guardin, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

I’ve been great! Thank you for asking.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single?

My latest single “Lust” was influenced by a lot of things. One being my previous relationship with an ex. Another being experiences I’ve had meeting people on the road who view me as something I could never see myself as. It’s a song about losing yourself in lust with someone who sees the world in you, but you know you’re no good for them.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

I had been staying at an airbnb out in Virginia in between shows on one of our off days & I couldn’t sleep. I had too much on my mind. It didn’t really register in my head that all of my equipment was with me until about 3AM, so I stayed up all night working on a track about what was on my mind.

Any plans to release a music video?

No, but I would definitely consider it.

What is your recording and writing process like?

It all depends on the environment. Usually if I’m back home, I write either early in the morning or late at night about whatever’s floating around up there in my noggin & structure a beat based around the topic. I tend to just hit record & freestyle mumble on the beat to figure out some of my melodies though.

What role does your hometown in NY play in your music?

It’s a very small city with a population of less than ten thousand, most of that being the elderly, so there isn’t much to do other than go to Walmart or the park. I think my hometown has definitely given me the push to develop a stronger work ethic so I can get outta there.

With each song reaching out to so many fans – do you feel any pressure as you release any new material or rather the opposite?

I feel more pressure to keep in touch with fans rather than the pressure of releasing something new. It’s always been important to me to let the creative process come naturally or the song comes off as ingenuine to me.

Does your steady release of singles mean we can expect an album/record soon? If so, how’s that coming along?

Yes, I definitely wanna keep releasing singles semi frequently, but I’ve got a new project in the works that I think you’ll all really enjoy. It’s coming together slowly, but it’ll be some of my best work to date.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

Nothing yet, but I would love to have it done by the spring or summer.

How are you preparing for your upcoming tours?

I’ve been drinking plenty of water & watching a lot of live videos from some of my favorite bands/artist just as a slight study technique.

What are you looking forward to the most?

Just meeting all the people who made this dream possible & singing my little heart out on stage.

Can we expect any live collaboration with the other acts on the bill of these tours?

I don’t have anything planned right now, but it would be awesome to do a track or two with some of my friends. We’ll see.

What else is happening next in guardin’s world?

Just a lot of creating & traveling. I’ve got a few unreleased music videos that are dropping relatively soon that I think you’ll all enjoy.
