Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Hey, we’re doing great! We’re definitely excited to be a part of VENTS!

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Date or Dance”?

We’d love to. “Date or Dance” started as some lyrics that we discovered on Blake’s old computer that he had written when he was 15. The song at the time focused on taking someone to the High School Dance and constantly wondering if they were just friends, or if this was an actual date. Now looking back “Date or Dance” brings an element of nostalgia in a positive way, reminiscing on the the beautiful awkwardness that High School totally is.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

Growing up, I’m sure I’m no different than most, but my high school was always FULL of drama, and even more so when a high school dance was coming up. Well I wanted nothing todo with any of that and the best way I knew to avoid it all was just to play my guitar and try to ignore it.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

Yes! The video has actually already been shot and we had a ton of fun making this one in both downtown LA and downtown Dallas.

How was the recording and writing process?

Well once we discovered the lyrics which didn’t have any music with them, we played around with a simple melody, wanting to try and keep it upbeat and eventually wrote what is now one of our favorite guitar lines to play. After almost jokingly adding in the “ooh oohs” we had such a good time all singing them that we couldn’t get rid of them!

What role does Texas play in your music?

Texas plays more of a role than most think. Half of “Date or Dance” was actually recorded in Austin, TX and part of the music video was shot in Dallas. But growing up in the south, and especially the Bible Belt, has definitely influenced the way I write and specifically sing. Some people think I have a twang or almost country element to my voice, and others can’t hear it at all. Haha

How do you go on blending your Southern rock roots with the California poppy elements?

Most of it is just natural..We set out to write music that we like, and it ends up being this Pop/Rock that sometimes sounds like its from the south. In my opinion, most of the pop comes in the lyrics and synth heavy parts and the south comes out a lot in the guitar riffs and how the vocals are sung.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

Yes actually! Currently we have three singles that will all be released in the first half of the year and I must say we are stoked to have more music out! We’ve jokingly called these three the “Dance Chronicles” while although unplanned, they’re all based around a dance concept. (Song titles: “Date or Dance” “Neon Prom” “The Waltz”).

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

I can’t say exact dates yet, but I can say that before June all three songs will be out and available.

Any plans to hit the road?

Plans, yes. Details TBD on that while we prepare to record a Full Length.

What else is happening next in FLOCK’s world?

That’s a great question. 2019 is going to be a big one for us with so much new material coming up. We have a light show that are excited to debut at shows this next year and have dates that will be announcing shortly! To stay up to date with all of that plus lots of behind the scenes shenanigans, be sure and follow our Instagram @FLOCKtheband  as we post all sorts of goofy things on there.
