Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Very good thank you. Like many people we’re in the ‘New Year, New me” phase of 2019, which is all forgotten by February 1st!

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Not Afraid”?

So Not Afraid is the first single from our new record (out April 12th). It’s a gritty, hard hitting, riff heavy track.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

The lyrics are all about letting someone into the part of you that we close off to people until we trust them. Every song on the album is influenced more by one genre than another although it’s bracketed “alternate rock” I guess this one leans more toward our love of those youthful days going to see backs like funeral for a friend, brand new, the used.

Any plans to release a music video for the single?

We currently have a lyric video out on YouTube. We have a few fun ideas for Not Afraid as a video so it may be in the pipe line.

The single comes off your new album Following Shadows – what’s the story behind the title?

So following shadows is a track off the album. The track is about finding the courage to exit a situation you aren’t happy with and following the unknown, finding new territory in your life.

How was the recording and writing process?

The writing process we will tackle first. So some track on the album have been kicking around for years and some tracks were written all the way up to three weeks before the studio. It was really fun putting them together as a record and finding that common thread that binds them all together. We spent ALOT of time at our studio doing demo after demo. Firstly to get the sound we wanted and secondly to make sure we maximised the time we spent in the studio.

What was it like to work with John Mitchell and how did that relationship develop?

John is an absolute diamond. He is so easy to get on with and such a laugh that we rarely got stressed out. You could say that if it was a romantic relationship then we swiftly moved passed first base and were very much on pet names by day two.

The Mitch is a great producer, listened to our sound and enhanced it.

How much did he get to influence the album?

As I mentioned he really managed to highlight our sound and bring the best bits out. We had  a lot of pre production ideas before hitting the studio but Johns ear for harmonies and attention to detail just added the cherry to the bakewell.

How did you go on capturing the live essence on the studio?

Organic is our motto!

So we worked for months on click tracks, tweaking every bar so that it felt as natural as possible. We then gigged with them until they felt normal. You try to do as much of the track on one go to give it a live feel. James (drummer) especially, maybe only did 3-5 takes to keep the energy and organic feel.

What role does the UK play in your music?

We gig regularly around the UK and try to make ourselves known on the circuit. Compared to say the Netherlands or Germany people don’t just go out to gigs so a lot of work goes into promoting a few bigger shows every year.

Where did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?

Lyrically most of the tracks on this record are influenced by relationships, be it family, romantic, friendship. I like my lyrics to mean more than what they literally say so that the listener can interpret them how they like.

As a band we have a very broad taste in music from bands like Manchester Orchestra to Pink Floyd, Bon Iver to Oceansize and Moderat to Nick Cave and the bad seeds. These bands have hugely influenced the way we structure songs, and given us the courage create ideas off our own instruments and mess around with the general form of the “alt rock” band.

Any plans to hit the road?

We are heading out for a six day stint in March from the 6th-10th around the uk so make sure you get your tickets online. We will hopefully hit up Germany and The Netherlands again this year too.

What else is happening next in LUNA KISS’ world?

We recently shot a live performance at LK HQ with a bunch of fans so that will be coming out on YouTube and Spotify. We have a few more music videos and singles coming out over the next few months too.
