INTERVIEW: Ilana Armida

Hi Ilana, welcome to VENTS! How have you been since we last spoke?
Hi! Thanks for having me!  I’ve been GREAT! Very Busy!

Can you talk to us more about what you’ve released since last year. What is your newest single “Addicted To You” all about?

Yeah! The past couple of years, I have been focused on writing (for myself and other artists) and defining my sound. I moved to LA  and have been fortunate enough to work with some really dope songwriters and producers. “Addicted To You” is super special to me, it was the first song I wrote after moving to LA. The lyrics are actually pretty dark, as fun as this song is to dance to. It is about love addiction. I had the concept in my head for a while and I collaborated with the very talented J Bach to bring it to life.

How was the recording and writing process? What inspired you to co-write this song?

It was a long and strange process writing and recording this song. I wrote “Addicted To You” almost 2 years ago with JBach. JBach is a super talented pop songwriter out here in LA and also one of my best friends. We wrote the melodies to this little marimba loop that JBach ( I call him “Bub”) had on his keyboard. Bub and I showed the song to our friends Alex Kinsey and Johan Lindbrandt of the band Botalks and they created this incredible demo with us. After that the song kind of got passed through several hands but we couldn’t land on the perfect version. It sat on my computer for a while until we finally teamed up with Allen Mattox to finish production and now “Addicted To You” is finally out!

Do you tend to take a different approach when you are collaborating with someone else rather than on your own?

Collaborating with people is MY FAVORITE! When we last spoke I was creating out of my bedroom-turned-studio all by myself in Bradenton, Florida. There weren’t many musical minds around to bounce ideas off of. My music has gotten like a million times better now that I can create with other musicians and writers. I still write songs on my own but I much prefer working in a group!

What role does LA play in your music?

LA has completely changed my music. I’m in 3-8 writing sessions a week so I am constantly creating. I have a dope group of friends that I get to make music with and now I have a stand alone studio behind my house that makes it so easy to do what I love. I am happy! I love this city and I love what I do and that inspires me to make some really cool stuff.

How has your dancing background influenced your music?

Dance is a huge part of my music world. I always want to make music that I can dance to. I focus a lot on the beat and a dope bass line when I am creating because I know it will make people want to dance. I recently released a dance challenge video on my instagram for “Addicted To You” CHECK IT OUT! 🙂

Does the release of “Addicted To You” mean we can expect even more new material?

Oh yeah babyyy! “Addicted To You” is just the beginning. I am releasing a second single in January!

What does 2019 have in store for you? Any plans to hit the road?
2019! is going to be incredible. You can expect a lot of new music and content from me! I would love to hit the road soon. No plans to yet but stay tuned!!
