I’m good just working on myself, my craft, and my relationships with people.
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Bad Guy”?
It’s basically this track I made after being painted in a bad way by close friends. It represents my work being the positive outcome of the negatives they all had pointed out, the whole picture can be amazing even if it comes with some bad as well.
Did any event, in particular, inspire you to write this song?
One day a very close friend of mine was telling me I was acting different, I just got tired of all like the people I fucked with saying shit. So I wrote and recorded the song to remind myself why I do what I do.
Any plans to release a video for the single?
I have thought about it because I feel like I would be able to produce some dope visuals but don’t have any specific ideas yet.
How was the recording and writing process?
When I made the beat I just wanted something that felt like Chance The Rapper, with a little more playful soul mixed into it. The beat took me about two hours to make on Ableton. I wrote the song an hour after I finished beat but didn’t record it until three days later, due to me dealing with my own personal demons.
What role does Highland play in your music?
A lot actually I come from a place of struggle, I see it and live it every day and I use that to channel raw energy into anything I do.
Known for playing with different genres – how do you go on balancing all these styles together?
All my friends do music so naturally the more we hung out the more I got into everything they were listening to, which only broadened my horizon of music. It has allowed me to dabble in all genres instead of being limited to one.
Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?
Yes I’ve been working on tape for about a year now but I’m still not done with it yet. The plan is to be finished by 2019.
Any tentative release date or title in mind?
I want to release around my birthday but it’s not definite. As for for the name, I have come up with a few but none of them have stuck yet, but I’m sure one day it’ll just come to me naturally.
Any plans to hit the road?
It depends on how I’m received by the hip-hop community and how well my tape does.
What else is happening next in Don Korleone’s world?
Just releasing some more music in a couple weeks as well as some shows at the start of the new year.
