INTERVIEW: Aaron Pritchett
Hi Aaron, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
I’ve been doing great! Gearing up for the big tour so it’s what I call the calm before the storm!
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Better When I Do”?
It’s a song that I heard at a publishers office in Nashville when I was having what’s called a “listening session” where I listen to demos of songs from their in-house staff writers. I knew this song was for me the minute I heard it and HAD to have it! Thankfully, it’s now a single at radio that’s climbing the charts.
Any plans to release a video for the single?
Actually, the video for “Better When I Do” just came out this past week! I’m so excited for people to see it because it’s a very different approach for me. Thank you to Cole Northey who is a young, up-and-coming video director, that came up with the unique and awesome concept.
The single comes off your new album Out On The Town – what’s the story behind the title?
The title of the album came from one of the songs on the record called “Out On The Town”, that we’re imagining being a single down the road. It’s also a song written by the band members of Old Dominion!
How was the recording and writing process?
The recording process these days, for me anyway, is much easier than it used to be. My producer, Scott Cooke, does much of the pre-production at his studio and I come in later to sing vocals on the tracks he’s created. Scotty Chops is one of the best out there so I have full confidence in him and his abilities. And, the fans and radio agree with me!
As you keep gaining much success throughout your career – does this put any pressure on you as you release new material?
There’s always pressure when releasing a new single. Every time and after all these years (over 25 years now!) it never gets any different. Will a single hit? Will it hit Top 10? With every new single I release I’m constantly asking those same questions. In the past 3 years I’ve been lucky enough to break through that barrier again and haven’t had a dud, yet…. knock on wood!
What role does Canada play in your music?
Canada plays a huge roll in my music. Not only do I need to keep up to what’s on Canadian country radio but it also has to relate to the Canadians listening to it. I’ve been understanding of that and it’s why I believe I’ve remained in this industry as long as I have and continue to have success with my singles and albums.
Where did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?
I only ended up writing one song on this 6 songs on the EP but there is an element of being inspired by the demos of the songs I’m pitched to record. They may relate to my life at that time so I’ll choose it based on that. When I write, I don’t use my own stories very often but have used other family and friends stories.
How are you preparing for your upcoming tour?
this is going to be an incredibly gruelling tour with 36 shows, around 2 hours long each, in 40 days. Physically I have to be over-prepared, as well as mentally and emotionally. Eat right, sleep right and HYDRATE!!
What are you looking forward the most?
First and foremost, playing for the amazing fans and making sure I put on the best show possible. Next would be just the hang with band and crew. I’ve got some amazing people that I get the pleasure of being great friends with who also play music with me in the band!!
Any plans to do a live collaboration with the other acts in the bill?
There definitely are moments with the other artists and I don’t want to let the cat out of the bag. Let’s just say that people will have to come to the show to see it all go down first hand!!
What else is happening next in Aaron Pritchett’s world?
I think that after this tour it’s going to be time with family and friends. I’ve spent far too much time away from them all for too many years, so this is my catch up year. Then the summer will start around May and that’s always pretty crazy! Looking forward to an amazing 2019!!
Hi Sal, welcome to VENTS! How have you been? Hey RJ! Not bad at all, …
