I have been fine and normal, thank you for asking; and yourself, have you been well?
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “In San Francisco Bay”?
Yes, yes I can… Eleven people died from falls during the construction of the Golden Gate Bridge. ‘In San Francisco Bay’ is on our newest album, DBUK, ‘Songs Nine Through Sixteen’, so if everything were totaled between DBUK, ‘Songs One Through Eight’ and DBUK, ‘Songs Nine Through Sixteen,’ it would be the twelfth…song.
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
Twenty some years and I still have no acceptable answer for this type of question…I simply feel I don’t need inspired, I don’t need to vent my anger, I don’t have feelings that will make me wilt if I don’t voice them. I don’t have a difficult life or an interesting backstory that needs to be debuted and manipulated for Broadway. I grew up in an affluent family, was privileged compared too most, which traditionally is not conducive for an inspirational rock and roll biography. What I do have is my imagination… I tell stories. It is that simple.
If inspiration has any role in this it would be the people I have chosen to put in my life. The ones I have made a commitment to, to take care of to the best of my abilities; when I see them struggling with undeserved burdens that ‘inspires’ me to always keep improving myself and my imagination and keep trying to write the perfect story that will hopefully lead to alleviate their burdens…I would imagine some might put inspiration and guilt on equal footing for me.
How was the filming process and experience behind the video?
Grueling, it is a very difficult life making music and videos to accompany them. Maybe someone will be inspired to make a musical of our tragedies and hardships. Those lights can get warm and force me to choose between my Brooks Brothers or Burberry.
How was the recording and writing process?
Fine and normal, thank you for asking.
What role does Denver play in your music?
We live in Denver, those are my Mountains. I want my city back.
Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?
The album is completed.
Any tentative release date or title in mind?
Yes, it comes out January 25th, 2019, along with a reissue of our first album.
As you re-release your first album, while working on this new one – did the previous material actually have influence the new one?
Everything influences me – when I say ‘me’, that is just myself; I don’t want to speak for any one else-. Here are some things that influence me, weather, light, noise, water, hockey, Rebecca, Dwight and Slim…
What made you want to seek for a much darker direction?
I think I need to see a baseline of what you are comparing this against to be able to answer this.
Any plans to hit the road?
It is still flattering that any one would have any interest in seeing us in person, and yes, we will be in Europe in February and March, from UK to Spain to Russia and points between. Then we return and will be doing a North American tour with Norman Westberg who plays with The Swans.
What else is happening next in DBUK’s world?
