INTERVIEW: Riccie Oriach

Hi Riccie, welcome to VENTS! How have you been? Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Viaje Al Infinito”?

Hey! Its all good here! “Viaje al infinito ” is Spanish for “Journey to the infinite”.  It’s a deep dive into a whole new chapter in my life, a collection of memories, colors, afro-Caribbean identity & much more transformed into music

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

This song has been written all my life, i just got the chance to let it out for the world to enjoy

How was the filming process and experience behind your video?

It was very cool, lots of good energy from the crew, Mentes Fritas and Andres Farías are brilliant and their art comes from the heart, everything felt well connected.

How was the recording and writing process? What was it like to work with Federico Lopez Schaper and how did that relationship develop?

We know each other from way back, Federico has always been a great musician since he was 13, he approached me when I was preparing a debut show with Vic Contreras, what is now La Alucinante Banda, and we connected very well. We also made a couple songs on the go while we were catching up. I was pretty impressed and invited him to play with us and the rest is history.

How much did he get to influence the album?

He was a fundamental key to the EP. Since he has lots of knowledge, the communication between us was bound to give good results.

What role does Dominican Republic play in your music?

For those whom haven’t been in the DR, just by listening to my music it is possible to relate to what is actually going down here. Lots of amazing rhythms and colors!

If I am not mistaken (and I’m pretty sure I’m not confusing you with someone else), you actually come from a punk background – do you still find and borrow inspiration from these heydays?

It has always been my way of living, I consider that my music is still on the same edge, just moving to other dimensions.

How do you go on balancing all the different genres together and does one style tend to shine out the most depending on the lyrics?

I consider myself as a free soul, and my music is just as free, I don’t lock my music in any particular genre.

What are you most looking forward to at Electric Paradise?

I just want you all to have a good time with us ????

What else is happening next in Riccie Oriach’s world?

There’s lots of new things coming and im so exited to show my world to the world.

Catch him live this Dec. 22nd at Electric Paradise! Buy your tix now
