Punk Empress of African Rock Cole Williams has just announced that she has signed on with Louisiana Red Hot Records to release an album of new material in Spring 2019. The album will be Cole’s first release featuring brand new music since the Sin City mixtape dropped in 2016. Next year will also see Cole hit the road on an extensive tour, dates for which are forthcoming.
Further increasing her influence in the New Orleans music scene, Cole’s famous Saturday night residencies are now being streamed live via WHIV, 102.3 in New Orleans. Cole’s eclectic #AfricanRockSaturday live events from Little Gem Saloon, Hi Ho Lounge, and The Ace Hotel will now be streamable to fans around the world at 1AM CST.
To holdover fans until the release of the new album in 2019, Cole has just released Volume 1 of a trio of acapella albums to her Bandcamp member subscribers. Volume 1 is called “The Lovers.” Cole explains: “These are several songs that were narrated by past relationships. In tarot, The Lovers card signifies true love, a soulmate. I believe we learn from our experiences and love always breeds more love. I hope you enjoy hearing these super stripped down versions, and see you in the world.” Volumes 2 and 3 will follow in the coming months.
Last month, Williams released a solo retrospective album titled The Punk Empress of African Rock – Testimony, which OffBeat Magazine called, “a thank you to the city [New Orleans].” The album featured 10 trademark tracks spanning Cole’s solo career and can be streamed on Spotify and Apple Music.
