Animal Feelings Release New Track by Track For Soft Touches EP

As it dives into some relatable themes of Love and its consequences – Oli Chang aka Animal Feelings is back with the release of his new material, Soft Touches. We sit with Chang for an extensive look, track by track, to the meaning and reason behind all 5 tracks on this record.

Soft Touches

This is a ballad about how an erotic experience can have healing qualities. Thief and I wrote this in like 2 hours! This was the first attempt at this set of songs in which I was playing with how real piano could work with a vintage synth drop. I was trying to make it sound like ripples of water.

This was the next attempt at this set of pieces. Lyrically Thief and I were interested in the the theme of tough love. With this vintage synth drop I was going more for the sound of billions of buds blooming in psychedelic paradise.

Ori and I put this together on a hot Brooklyn afternoon this summer. The city kind of drains you of life and depletes your adrenal glands. That’s one state of mind for the song. It’s also about how easy it is to let your animal urges can affect the course of your life in one way or another.

Divine Love

Ralph Lauren used this song to launch their spring fragrance. This makes sense because Nomi Ruiz and I wanted to tell a story of dark fantasy holiday that takes place in the shade by the ocean. As you scrunch your toes into the sand my favorite line in the song is “Your love’s a drug that I want to do”

This one is a meditation on waking up somewhere and not knowing where you are. It’s trying to create a mood perfect for a lucid dream state. Adam Masterson zoned out and improvised all these lyrics that were then assembled into this Lynch-ian tale of love with a dark angel.

The EP sits in the indie-electro genre and includes five super emotive tracks. This EP focuses way more on the vocals compared to his previous EP, with each song featuring a different vocalists. One of these being long time collaborator and fellow Sydney vocalist Thief, who has co-produced records for a number of huge Australian names, most recently Ruel (2018 breakthrough artist ARIA winner).
