Having last week played BBC Introducing’s Great Escape First Fifty showcase in London, which aired on Huw Stephen’s Radio 1 show on Sunday evening, Glaswegian indie rock four-piece LUCIA today release the visual to accompany their latest single ‘Cheap Talk’. A pastiche to American teen rom-coms but with a killer twist, watch the video for ‘Cheap Talk’ featuring front-woman Lucia’s alter ego Regina George here – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a0HFDYuRDsI
Speaking about the video, LUCIA’s front woman Lucia Fairfull says, “’Cheap Talk’, where all my chick flick dreams came true. It was directed by Sedona May & Myself, and filmed by Christopher Gomes. This song was made for the means girls, so it would have been rude not to!”
‘Cheap Talk’ is the title track from LUCIA’s second EP, which was released on November 2nd through Sweet Jane Recordings. Produced by Jim Abbiss (Arctic Monkeys, Adele) and mixed by Craig Silvey (Arcade Fire, Florence) the EP also features their critically acclaimed single ‘Summertime’, as well as two brand new tracks; ‘All The Money’ and ‘What I Am’. It’s already clocked up over 500K streams, had support from Jack Saunders on his BBC Radio 1 show, NME, The Independent, CLASH, DORK,BBC’s Music Live’s Newbie Tuesday, EuphoriaMagazine to name a few and numerous Spotify and Apple Music playlists including New Music Friday(UK), All New All Now, Hot New Bands, New Noise (Global), All New Rock (Global) much more. The EP is a powerful statement of intent from the incredibly exciting band. Listen HERE: https://soundcloud.com/sweetjanerecordings/sets/lucia-cheap-talk/ https://ffm.to/cheaptalk
Recent single ‘Summertime’, described by CLASH as “a bold statement, almost cinematic in its lust for beautiful grandeur.Blessed with an incredible chorus, each note feels like a defining release”, featured on Spotify’s New Music Friday (UK) and The Indie List, Fresh Finds (US), got airplay from Annie Mac (BBC Radio 1), and Radio X and hit the top 10 on Hype Machine.NME proclaimed – “nostalgic indie pop… full of warm riffs and cantering drums, all topped off with a road-trip chorus.”
With the sweetness of bubblegum pop, the easy swagger of classic college rock, Phil Spector’s widescreen ambition, and the gritty rumblings of the best riot grrrl and grunge, LUCIA have won the hearts of music-lovers, critics and fellow artists with just a couple of releases and a few years of non-stop touring. This is modern rock n’ roll driven by instinct alone. The perfect soundtrack for a teenage dream.
From being discovered as a busker on the streets of Glasgow to playing with the likes of Black Honey, The Big Moon, Neon Waltz and The Undertones, their DIY spirit and knack for a dreamwave banger now finds them working with Arctic Monkeys and Florence + The Machine collaborators and coming to a town near you.
‘Cheap Talk EP’ is the follow-up to LUCIA’s single ‘Melted Ice-cream’ and debut ‘Best Boy’ EP that was released on Glasgow indie label Dead Beet Records.
Prolific on the live scene LUCIA will have played 84+ gigs over the last 12 months by the time December comes including 19+ festival dates; some highlights include SXSW, TGE, Live At Leeds, Latitude, TRNSMT and Boardmasters.
