INTERVIEW: Crimson Calamity

Hi ladies, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

We’ve been great, thanks for asking! Super excited for this release and for the holiday season.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “First Snow”?

We had this idea of writing a song about the yearning people feel when there is someone missing during the holidays. This story of a loved one waiting for a soldier to return home developed from that. We wanted to make it somewhat timeless and not from one particular persons perspective because love comes in many forms and so many people can relate.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

Neither of us come from a military family but we really connected with the feeling of missing someone you love.

Was this always meant to be a Christmas single or did that come through the process?

We had been wanting to write a Christmas song for a long time but it’s not an easy feat! We didn’t set out to write a melancholy Christmas tune but, those feelings can definitely be wrapped up in the Holidays and we wanted to pay tribute to those who aren’t always feeling happiness this time of year.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

We have talked about doing a live video!

How was the recording and writing process?

The recording process was a dream. We recorded the song at The Sound Emporium here in Nashville. Our producer, Gena Johnson decorated the space with Christmas decorations to get us in the spirit. We recorded the track live to keep that organic, acoustic feeling. We love to record our vocals at the same time so we can feed off one another.

What role does Nashville play in your music?

We describe our music as Roots /Rock /Americana which has a large presence here in Nashville. Living here has, in many ways, helped us step up our game songwriting wise and in our performance as well.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material, perhaps a Holiday record? How’s that coming along?

We are working on writing for our new EP, alas the world will have to wait for a Holiday record! We will be back in the studio in March so we are looking forward to releasing new music in 2019.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

Our goal is early fall, but with the record making process, you never know! We have been tossing around titles and we are starting to see a theme throughout our collection of songs we already have!

Any plans to hit the road?

We get out on the road pretty regularly, usually on weekends, but we just got back from a few weeks in the North East and we are headed West this January. The best way to see if we are playing in your area is to follow us on Facebook and Instagram! @crimsoncmusic

What else is happening next in Crimson Calamity’s world?

We will be playing at The Hotel Cafe in Los Angeles on 1/22 at 7pm and then heading to The Sundance Film Festival. We’ll continue to write for the new EP and tour in between.
