INTERVIEW: Hannie Lee

Hi Hannie, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Hello VENTS. I am doing great and looking forward to the summer holiday here in South Africa.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “What I Like”?

This is my first single, which I’m so excited about. The song is all about being yourself, to be free and keeping your head up high no matter the circumstances. A good feel song with a relaxed beat. You need a good couple of bass speakers to handle this song…. Pumped!!

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

I wanted my first release to be a feel good track. The world can be negative and we need positivity in the world. I hope this track helps people escape for 3 minutes from their problems.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

Yes, I am working on the video and I am excited to release it. I hope to release the video either in December or early 2019.

How was the recording and writing process?

I wrote the song in a couple of weeks with a producer and I came to America to cut vocals. I made a whole trip out of it. While in America, I had a photoshoot and even saw Taylor Swiftperform.

How has your health issue influences your music?

When I was young the health issue was tough and I had to stop daily sport, but this opened the door to singing which I love very much. Music definitely brought ight to my world. Through this God gave me much more than I was expected. Currently I’m doing great!

What role does South Africa play in your writing?

With South Africa’s rainbow nation, I am exposed to different cultures and it inspires me to be versatile and explore different genres. South Africa is a beautiful country and it definitely fuels my creativity.

Any plans to hit the road?

Yes, I am scheduling shows right now. I love performing in front a live audience.

What else is happening next in Hannie Lee’s world?

Well, I am preparing for a school concert, as well as a music video for “What I Like”. I also auditioned for a part in a musical to be hosted in the well none “Artscape Theatre” in Cape Town. I’m super excited with everything that’s going on.
