INTERVIEW: French DJ Assad

– Hi Assad, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Hi, Vents! All good, thanks!

– Can you talk to us more about your latest single ‘Sweat’?

I’ve been working on this track for a long time. An old friend sent me a demo with Laurell’s magnificent voice. I immediately went to the studio with Willy William and reworked the track so it could turn out like how I imagined in my head.

– Did any event, in particular, inspire you to write this song?

It really was an organic process. When I heard the top line, it came together in my head, and then I just had to translate my vision into music.

– Any plans to release a video for the single?

We are working on a lyrics video for the track at the moment, the team did a great job, and I’m proud of the result! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wO4s158KpKw
Stay tuned for a possible official video coming soon 😉

– How was the recording and writing process?

It was like a long-distance relationship. I received the topline from Laurell via a mutual friend, and I worked on it over and over. The song was sent back and forth many times.

I wasn’t fully satisfied, until one night I decided to visit my bro Willy William’s house, which is just a  few minutes away from mine, and together we tied it all together.

– What role does France play in your music?

France is my home base, that’s where I grew up. My first musical influences came from France in my hometown. It’s the place where I started out as a DJ, and where I felt the support to grow as an artist. I’m grateful for the great opportunities I’ve had in France, they have lead me to where I am today.

-– The success you have acheieved – does that put pressure on you or rather the opposite?

I wouldn’t say I feel pressure; it’s more like excitement and a rollercoaster of emotions because you have to question and challenge yourself every time!

– Do you tend to take a different approach when you are collaborating with someone else rather than in your own?

Creation is a challenge whether it is on my own or with someone else. You’re never really alone though. My team is always there with me, and that’s what makes it interesting, to share, experience and discuss different opinions, while we are all aiming for the same goal. The most important thing is that we’re doing what we truly love and I hope that people feel that and enjoy it!

– Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

I have tracks that I’m working on, but I’m focusing on « Sweat » for now. But you’ll surely be the first to know when I have something new coming out!

– Any plans to hit the road?

A 2019 tour is in the works, and I hope to be able to visit as many new countries as possible and experience a lot of new cultures. I learn so much by meeting new people!

– What else is happening next in Assad’s world?

A lot of things, I’m always working on new music. Besides that, I’m always in and out of meetings, keeping busy!
