SINGLE REVIEW: If Every Day Was Christmas by Izellah

Although Izellah is still in the process of transforming from certified musical theatre star to genuine pop music celebrity, her transit so far appears to be going as strongly, if not more so, than anyone has expected. In the short time that Izellah has appeared on the international music scene, she has already released five singles, all generating amazing responses at radio and on social media as well all streaming platforms. This latest release, If Every Day Was Christmas, is one that will no doubt broaden the appeal of this young songstress and help her along her sure-fire trajectory to global stardom. The song was written and produced by the music production team of Andre Lindal, who has wo r k e d w i t h Maroon 5, Britney Spears, Justin Bieber, Kelly Clarkson, Nelly Furtado and Jennifer Lopez, and Michael Jay, whose credits include Eminem, Celine Dion and Australia’s Kylie Minogue. Although the collective credits of these two writers/producers are enough to warrant a slick and professional record, it’s Izellah’s unique brand of vocal talent which elevates this song. That’s not to say that the tune does not hit all the right spots melodically, lyrically and atmospherically because it indeed does, but Izellah’s command of her voice and its specific timbre are what is most interesting and arresting about this record. It’s a song which might be at home in a musical theatre setting, that big finale which brings everyone in the audience to their knees. But it might also be equally at home on commercial radio, despite the particular nature of the lyric; there is a thread running through the sentiment that might be relatable to people no matter what time of year. It’s a warm-hearted song with a message that’s more pertinent now than ever before performed by an aspiring megastar whose rise to star status might just be common knowledge by this time next Christmas.
