Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Snow Day”?
“Snow Day” is a song, that just popped up. I was in the studio playing the keyboard and the sound I was using just felt good. And from that, I knew I wanted to make a song that was nostalgic and would make people fall in love for the holidays – that a couple can say “that’s our song”. I wrote the verse and then everything else started to fit into place.
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
I wouldn’t say it was an event, it was more of a thought about being snowed in on Christmas with someone you love. There’s a lot of time we spend trying to keep ourselves busy, that when we’re forced to chill it can be a different experience.
Any plans to release a video for the single?
We will see.
The single comes off your new album Christmas With U – what’s the story behind the title?
Christmas With U was a title that I wrote that we decided not to put on this project. The name felt right with the songs on the project. These 3 songs all have a personal “one on one” feeling.
What made you want to release a holiday album? Did you plan to do this or the idea just popped up one day?
Making a Christmas album, just popped into our heads. My dad was telling me I should do a Christmas project, starting with Some standards and I was like “oh cool”. As I was recording those, I was like I have to put an original in there too.
How was the recording and writing process?
The process was fun, I worked with my collaborator/ my dad on production for the songs. And we just work really well together, so these songs came organically.
What was the approach you were after with these classics?
When we were doing the classic, I just wanted to approach them in a way where I could express myself through these songs. Staying true to what the songs are but adding who I am to them.
Where else did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?
We also realized after the 3 songs all start with a “S” which was cool to me.
Any plans to hit the road?
Right now, I’m just going with the flow. I would love to go on tour soon though.
What else is happening next in Tim Johnson Jr.’s world?
Been working on some acting projects. In 2019 I will be a co-starring in Hulu’s series “Futureman”, and two movies.
