BAROQUE POP SONGWRITER VALERIO LYSANDER RELEASES NEW VIDEO AND SINGLE OPTIMISTICALLY EXPLORING THE ACCEPTANCE OF DEATH

Baroque pop singer/songwriter Valerio Lysander releases official music video for his new single “Fools”, extracted from his album “We Are Like Coloured Moths Towards The Sunlight”, on 22nd November.

Fools is a wistful and wintry folk song about the optimistic realisation that death will come whether we worry about our griefs or not. Writing the song, Valerio wanted to express the feeling that “we suffer in the same ways and we’re all vulnerable in the same ways but once we accept that none of this really matters when put into the bigger picture, life becomes much easier and our grief more bearable”.

This concept is sung by Valerio’s gentle vocals with the help of a guitar, elegant synths, mandolin, harmonium and architected harmonies and canons, an instrumentation that recalls the arrangements of Sufjan Stevens in Carrie & Lowell.

Initially an attempt at a Christmas song, Fools eventually turned into something ironically different, which takes inspiration from Valerio’s experience with Buddhism and cognitive behavioural therapy, and that aims to be a message for everyone to care a bit less about their own struggles and expand their vision in a positive and value-creating way.

The song comes with an official music video in which Valerio explores the concept of loneliness and vulnerability in society as a group of friends, apparently enjoying themselves, speak their inner pain through Valerio’s lyrics and eventually lift their burden by putting their individuality in the context of a reality that transcends their own lives.

The single comes with a B-side track, “A Woman”, written some years ago for Valerio’s mum, who died last year in a car accident. The song explores the relationship between mother and child from the perspective of the latter, with the understanding that a parent is also a human being and has their own life, with its joys and pains, smiles and mistakes.
