Hi Jak, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Never better, thanks!  Currently feeling physically, mentally and spiritually strong and resilient.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “The Jersey Devil”?

The Jersey Devil is an ode to love, hate and everything in between. I believe that our emotions are mysterious and often misunderstood, but ultimately they make us human.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

In the street I talked to a guy and he told me when I’d die. He said that I’d be very old and not in pain. After this I saw the true beauty in us all…

How was the filming process and experience behind the video?

It’s a one-shot, one-take video that was taken at a party we had in London. Debauchery was the ‘dish of the day’.

The single comes off your new album Human Magic – what’s the story behind the title?

Magic is real. I’ve seen it with my naked eyes, heard it with my humble ears and felt it in my soul. It surrounds us. Nature, art, love and community are all made of magic. This album is about Human Magic – trying to understand the complex and mysterious human condition, and about how life can be mystical, difficult and wonderful all at once.”

How was the recording and writing process?

We channeled the wisdom of animism and lore of love and oneness. The songs came to us fully formed in a bewildering series of prophecies and dreams. They’d happen to us at unexpected times, like in a busy supermarket or driving late at night on the motorway. If we had no means to record the idea then it would pass through us and find somebody else to manifest in. Steve Sears Jr from Titan Studios managed to take all of these messages and visions and make them sound cohesive and listenable.

What role does London play in your music?

Although we’re from different corners of the British Isles, London brought us together. Although I obviously don’t sound like I’m from London (I’m not), I think you can hear the city in our music. The art, music and theatre of the capital’s past and present inspire us daily and have shaped our creativity greatly.

What aspect of magic did you get to explore on this record?

The true magic inside of us all. The kindness, passions and emotions that challenge our scientific understanding of ourselves and the world around us. But not just the magic inside of us, but the magic all around us. It’s everywhere, you just have to open your eyes and look for it…

Any plans to hit the road?

We’re definitely get out there in 2019! We’ve already been confirmed for a few festivals. We can’t announce anything just yet. Watch the skies!

What else is happening next in WACO’s world?

Our debut album Human Magic is coming out in 2019 and before then we have some more audio and visual alchemy to share with you. Some of the most ambitious things we’ve been part of, which makes it nervous and excited all at once. Now is our time.
