GRAMMY-nominated artist Matisyahu will be hosting his annual Festival of Light on December 6 at Brooklyn Steel. This year’s Festival of Light will feature performances from Matisyahu and Soul Rebels along with surprise guests throughout the night. A special guest appearance by prolific producer and multi-instrumentalist GriZ is one of several confirmed artists who will join Matisyahu for a truly unique evening. Soul Rebels comments, “We are excited and honored to support Matisyahu’s Festival of Light this year! Coming together as a community to celebrate and support each other is what this time of year is about.”
Multi-talented and festival founder, Matisyahu has created his own space in modern music, developing a loyal following within the improvisational-jam, Hip-Hop, and international scenes that have driven singles such as “One Day” and “King Without a Crown” to international recognition and success. His newest album, Undercurrent, was released last year via Matisyahu’s own imprint, Fallen Sparks Records. The album embodies a collaborative and freeform spirit as Matisyahu and his band seamlessly merge instrumental improvisation sessions with lyrics and vocals.
Matisyahu will be supported by the New Orleans brass band, Soul Rebels. Soul Rebels started with an idea – to expand upon the pop music they loved on the radio and the New Orleans brass tradition they grew up on. They took that tradition and blended funk and soul with elements of hip-hop, jazz and rock all within a brass band context. The band has built a career around an eclectic live show that harnesses the power of horns and drums in a deep pocket funk party-like atmosphere.
