INTERVIEW: Phil Good

Welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

I’ve been good! Looking forward to going home to Portland for the holidays

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Put It All On Me”?

Yea, I wrote “Put It All On Me” for my girlfriend who is also an artist. There was a point in time where she would come home after a meeting or session and just feel so defeated. I’ll never understand what it’s like for a woman in general, let alone in the music industry, so this song is my way of saying “you can vent, yell, cry, complain at me as much as you need and I’m Here for you” I feel like everyone needs a person that they can just be real and themselves with. Life is far from perfect and sometimes you just need someone to vent to.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

Yes! Haven’t secured any exact dates or plans yet but I definitely want to make one. I have some ideas brewing in my tiny brain.

How was the recording and writing process?

It was fun, but took forever. I wrote the song and started the production with Max Hershenow (formerly of MSMR), and the song came together so easily. I love when songs come directly from a conversation, and this one just fell into place. I finished a version of this song back in march of 2018, but I didn’t feel like it was ready. I put it on hold for a while and made like 6 different versions, re-recorded vocals 3 times, and FINALLY went back to the original finished version, tweaked it a bit, and it was done.

Do you tend to take a different approach when you are collaborating with or writing for someone else rather than in your own?

The approaches are the same but I think I’m a little easier going when it’s with/for someone else. I can be hard on myself when I’m writing alone or for myself. I like writing with and for others half the time because it reminds me to not be so hard on myself.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

Yes! I have a handful of songs that are written and almost done being produced that I’m very excited about. I’ll probably put out another in mid/late January .

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

The top of the new year for sure! Don’t wanna give away any titles yet 🙂

Any plans to hit the road?

I’m playing locally a bunch. No tour plans just yet but I can’t wait to tour! Hopefully next year I’ll do a tour or two.

What else is happening next in Phil Good’s world?

I’m going to New Zealand for New Years! It’s summer there during our winter. I’m so excited.
