Hi! Happy to be here! I’ve been great. Making music and hanging out with my cat, Honeycomb.
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Nervous Breakdown”?
Nervous Breakdown is a masochistic love letter.
Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?
Not so much an event as the tendency to put everything into people who didn’t want to give it back. Knowing that but choosing it over and over again. The rejection becomes fulfilling. Who can hurt you better, you or someone else?
Any plans to release a video for the single?
We just shot the video a week ago. I got to collaborate with my long time friend and creative partner Noel Maitland and also the incredible Kelsy Karter. Their direction was so amazing. I don’t wanna give too much of the video away but I really wanted to be surrounded by friends while having a total meltdown.
How was the recording and writing process?
So much fun. I wrote it with Mia Minichiello and Dave Burris. I showed up to the studio after being on a Weezer binge and made them listen to Beverly Hills on repeat. We laughed, we danced, we shared our nostalgia, and then we wrote the song. Later on Micah Jasper came in and he and Dave finished up the production. I love to be in control of my mess and open and honest about my struggles in my songs. “I’m in the mood for a nervous breakdown” is my admission. We all felt connected to that sentiment while we were writing.
Known for playing with different genres – how do you go on balancing them together?
I never really go in with an idea on what genre I’m going to create. There is a sense of understanding when we go into the studio now. A beautiful marriage of the things that inspire me most.
Any plans to hit the road?
No plans as of yet, but would love to tour when the time comes.
What else is happening next in Girl Wilde’s world?
I’m playing my debut show at the Gibson Showroom here in L.A. I’m excited to perform the songs that I’ll be releasing after the new year.
