Hi Slye, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Hello VENTS, i’m well, how are you?

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Echoes”?

Echoes marks the beginning of my musical Journey as Slye. It hints at all that you can expect to come from the future of my music.

Echoes represents the memory that stirs in your mind and refuses to disappear and haunts your every action, acting like ghost haunting your present decisions.

Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?

I wont go into specifics but Echoes was written and recorded around 2 years ago at a period of my life where I seemed to be unnecessarily carrying the weight of previous events. Not necessarily anything important or worthwhile; just everything, which put you in a state of indecision and anxiety which is just burdensome.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

No plans right now but videography and performance is going to be a big part of this.

How was the recording and writing process?

Great, recording with Tom Anderson and Alex Quinn (Seatbelts) was a real pleasure.

How Prince and Sly Stone has influence your writing?

Prince and Sly were unapologetic in their artistic output and weren’t afraid to push the boundaries of what we’ve come to expect of certain genres, or even people. You can feel their attitude in the songwriting. Undoubtedly two of the finest and fearless musicians and songwriters that I’ve ever heard.

What is it about the 70s that you find so fascinating?

Musically, the 70s – early 80s were a real period of discovery and experimentation. The musicians from that period were such characters and there was a genuine sense of performance and excitement to their shows. When you watched Prince perform with such ferocity or watch George Clinton command an enormous band full of eccentric characters, there’s a proper sense of showmanship.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

Echoes was only a teaser of what’s to come. Everything is ready to go and will show you what I’m really about.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

Early December.

Any plans to hit the road?

The full band will be performing shows in Liverpool in early 2019.

What else is happening next in Slye’s world?

Rehearsals have started with the full band so we’ll be playing shows very soon.

Next, Im looking to continue expanding the project with more music, photographs and hopefully music videos. I want every aspect of my creative output to convey the right message so that is always the aim.
