INTERVIEW: fiction.

Hi fiction, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

hi, vents. well, it’s voting season, so i’m about ten seconds from throwing the next prick who posts a picture of his “i voted” sticker through a fucking window.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Coconut Water”?

“coconut water” is just me ranting about all the tools i’ve come across in the la music scene. there’s a lot of them, but if i name drop, i’ll get sued, because who likes being called a tool?

Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?

i wanted to write a song other songwriters could connect with because they’ve experienced the same frustrations—soundcloud rappers wanting free beats, instagram models believing having followers equates to having talent, a&r’s not doing the job they get paid to do. this industry thrives on bullshit.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

nah. christopher nolan is busy. besides, i spent my budget on del taco and my girlfriend’s redbox late fees.

How was the recording and writing process?

fast. when i’m writing or recording, i believe in committing to the song. indecisiveness is my biggest peeve. i make shit i like. if people have opinions, they can drop them in my trusty fuck-it bucket.

What role does LA play in your music?

i love saucy basslines, 808’s, drums with ridiculous pockets, conversational lyrics. so, i suppose it’s as la as empty scientology centers and vegan tacos.

What aspect of The City of Angels did you get to explore on this song and what made you want to touch on these themes?

most people in la are either full of shit or delusional. so this song explores both in the same judgmental tone my girlfriend reminds me is the reason i don’t have friends. silver lining: whether you’re a dick or not, everybody hates parking enforcement.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

yeah. i want a helicopter, and my only talent is writing songs, so basically my cards are dealt.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

i have a small collection of songs i plan to release. my team and i decided my next single is a bop titled, “tangled.” dropping before christmas.

Any plans to hit the road?

i think i need fans first? not sure my mom counts.

What else is happening next in fiction.’s world?

i spend much of my free time wishing i was friends with dave chappelle and scrolling netflix before settling on jurassic park…again.

Check it out here.
