Wsprgrl is a San Diego based live electronic band comprised of singer-songwriter Cara Potiker, producer and multi-instrumentalist Patrick Heaney, bassist Mike Delgado, and visual artist Rachel Taylor. Androgynous lead vocals, infectious hooks, thoughtful lyrics, eighties inspired soundscapes, and chilling visuals form an idiosyncratic experience that is both danceable and emotional.
After a personal evolution, Cara decided that she wanted to focus on creating more groove-oriented dance music that still catered to her dark sensibilities. Her and Patrick reunited after several months to write an indie dance inspired EP called ‘Solar Return.’ Solar Return nods to influences like Cut Copy, Hot Chip, and Little Dragon. Bass driven hooks, warm textures, and strong female vocals are the signature components of wsprgrl’s gloomy yet danceable sound. In March of 2018, Cara and Patrick decided that it was time to move wsprgrl from the studio to the stage. Patrick recruited his long time friend and collaborator Mike Delgado, a notable local musician and former bass player of the popular indie band Moving Units.
The video for their new single, “Gasoline”, captures the quirkness and experimental approach that makes the band such a must listen.
