It’s been a huge week for the newly resurgent Busted. After announcing that their new “ultimate Busted album”‘Half Way There’ would be released onFebruary8th and followed by a major UK arena tour, the boys powered through three riotous sold-out shows at the 100 Club in a single day.
That relentless momentum continues as they drop the new track ‘Nineties’, which is the first song to be taken from ‘Half Way There’. Produced by the legendary GilNorton (Pixies, FooFighters), ‘Nineties’erupts into life by taking us back to the era of SmashingPumpkins and MacaulayCulkin, and the carefree “days of ditching school to watch The Goonies.”
A natural step forwards from all-time Busted favourites such as ‘Year 3000’ and ‘Crashed The Wedding’, ‘Nineties’ features a co-writing credit for their old friend DougiePoynter of McFly.
“This was the first song we wrote that ended up on the album,” says CharlieSimpson. “And from then on, it was like a domino effect – everything else came pretty easily after that. It’s great that it’s going to be the first thing that fans hear because it’s an important part of the journey.”
‘Nineties’ coincides with the news that tickets for Busted’sUK arena tour in March are now on general sale from
myticket.co.uk/artists/busted. Demand is sure to be huge. The band’s three shows at the 100 Club sold-out within two minutes, and many fans purchased tour tickets in advance by pre-ordering the album.
The dates are:
23rd – Glasgow, The SSE Hydro
26th – Cardiff, Motorpoint Arena
28th – Manchester, Arena
29th – Birmingham, Resorts World Arena
30th – London, The SSE Arena Wembley
JamesBourne, CharlieSimpson and MattWillis spent a year working on the album. They wrote more material than ever, much of it at Bourne’sapartment in NorthLondon where they spent so much time together back when they first started the band. They constantly revisited each idea to make the album as strong as it could possibly be.
The result is an album that expands upon Busted’s trajectory the first time around. It’s a rush of melody and effervescent riffs as they blend huge arena-filling choruses with the classic pop-punk sound of Blink182 and NewFoundGlory. Lyrically it’s often reflective and nostalgic (‘Reunion’, ‘All My Friends’ and a mini Busted autobiography in the shape of ‘It Happens’), but there are some fantastical flights of fancy too in the shape of ‘Shipwrecked In Atlantis’ and a tribute to Elon Musk in ‘Race To Mars’.
‘Half Way There’ will be released on streaming, download, CD, black vinyl and splattered vinyl formats. The album is available to pre-order here.
