Some songwriters have the rare ability to produce melodies that will both get you on the dance floor while you surrender to the sound of the bass in your chest – and then the morning after, you put that exact same song back on the stereo to feel some inner peace. DAVID44 writes that kind of songs.

David Ólafsson was born in Iceland – a place of pure silence far away from everything in the Atlantic Ocean – but lives in the big city of Copenhagen where the beat is constant, so to him the mixture of musical euphoria and bliss comes as a very natural thing. Ólafsson explains: “It really doesn’t get more mixed up than that. But I need both scenarios in my life and in my music. I love the tension between the opposites and this is where it gets interesting for me as a songwriter.”

DAVID44 makes electronic pop music that fuses with elements from house and funk – and the brand-new single from the upcoming debut album is title track, ‘Truth’. From the very first beat of the kick, that softly leads the way like a heartbeat, ‘Truth’ unfolds with the simple yet rousing and moving lyrics. David Ólafsson tells about the song: “It’s about speaking the truth but also how reality and words can be twisted by the one hearing it. It’s about having a misunderstood self-image, not believing in yourself or accepting your true self. These can be very dangerous thoughts and I wrote ‘Truth’ to boost the missing self-esteem.”
