Bay Area indie-pop artist Zyles has just released a video for his current single, the infectious slow jam, “Secretary.” The video, which recently premiered on CelebMix.com, is a thoughtful and playful depiction of searching for love as a twenty-something, and what Zyles calls an example of “The Secretary Problem.”
Zyles explains: “The Secretary Problem, The Marriage Problem, This dilemma has many names. But the question is universal: How do we choose the best? The best hire. The best lover. I was inspired by a thought experiment from the math community around how to hire a secretary. And then by the psych community that demonstrated that we tend to have trouble letting go, even when we know a better option is out there. In this song, I merged the secretary and marriage themes. The secretary is the lover. And she won’t let me sleep.”
“Secretary” is the follow up single to Zyles’ bright Summer anthem “Sundresses,” and is a stylized slow jam that treads the line between retro R&B and soul, while maintaining a distinct modern edge musically and lyrically.
