Hi! Thanks so much for having me. I have been great, just busy pushing the new single “West Virginia Rail.”
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “West Virginia Rail”?
“West Virginia Rail” tells the story of a young person who has moved away from the only life they’ve ever known in order to provide for their family. The song mentions moving to the big ole city and working in a rundown factory but on Friday evening they’re headed back home until it’s time to start all over again.
Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?
There wasn’t a particular event that inspired me to write this song, but it does resemble my storyline of how I moved from West Virginia to “the big ole city” (Nashville) to find work. The only difference for me is I’m not going back and forth on the weekends, thankfully!
Any plans to release a video for the single?
We do have plans on releasing a video yes. We are actually going to start filming here in the coming weeks and get it released very soon!
How was the recording and writing process?
Both the recording and writing processes are always a great time especially with the fantastic people I’m blessed to work with. I look forward to the actual recording session the most however since I can hear everything coming together and can get an idea of how I want the vocals to sound.
What was it like to work with Glen Duncan and how did that relationship develop?
Glen is a great guy and a super talented. We connected very fast since we share the same music taste such as The Stanley Brothers and Glen knows the history in detail of those artists of that era and so I always learn something new every time we get together to write. My manager, JoAnn Berry, is the one who actually introduced us last year and I’m so glad because Glen has become a huge part of my team.
How much did he get to influence the song?
“West Virginia Rail” was Glen’s original idea so he had a ton of influence on the song needless to say and it was such a fun idea to build upon and to record.
You get to blend different genres – how did you go on balancing together?
I blend traditional Country, Bluegrass along and old time Gospel together which is something I was brought up on so for me the balance comes very natural, it is something that just goes together easily and I don’t have to try to balance it.
Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?
We will be releasing a new single at the beginning of the new year which we plan to start working on in just a few days from now. It is coming along great. Like I said everything just flows together and working with Glen has been amazing.
Any tentative release date or title in mind?
We don’t have any specific release date or titles yet but hopefully we will have some updates soon!
Any plans to hit the road?
We’ve just come off a pretty busy year traveling wise so I think the majority of our time spent now will just go towards the new releases and other projects we have in store!
What else is happening next in Joe Hott’s world?
I’m just going to keep taking everything one day at a time and see what happens. We have many projects and ideas to work on plus holidays are around the corner so I’ll be taking some time off and then start preparing for the new year!
