INTERVIEW: Hior Chronik

Hi Hior, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Hello it’s a pleasure to talk to you. I’ve been pretty fine the last months since I moved back to Berlin for good. Its always been an inspiring place for me, my life and my music.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Under any custody“?

This is the first track I started to work on for the album. This is also my first attempt to make a song sound more pop electronic and this gave me the force to continue with the rest of the tracks. It is one of the two songs I made in Athens after my summer vacation. Being close to the sea for days, a bit isolated and in love with the nature and the difference of living outside a city. So I would say that all the positive emotions I got after this beautiful break instantly became a song.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

Apart from what I mentioned before, there is no event in particular that inspired me to write this song. A video describes it better as it’s this feeling of diving to another world.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

That is the plan. We filmed some videos underwater trying to show what I described before. That special moment when your body is floating whilst staying in peace with itself and nature. Nothing more, nothing less.

The single comes off your new album Descent – what’s the story behind the title?

For me it’s a more poetic way of describing. The higher you get, the more difficult it is to get down. Needs more courage using all your forces that you have. It’s like you have come back home from a trip, totally complete with yourself and others.

How was the recording and writing process?

Most of the tracks I made in Berlin and two of them in Athens. I really enjoyed the process and didn’t take too much time the whole production. When Paul forced me to make more songs I started working for this album the next day and I was in the right mood to complete it.

What role did Berlin play in the writing and music on this album?

The biggest one. Berlin is the place that really influences anything I do. If I hadn’t come to this city 15 years ago I would be a different person for sure. So the influence it has on me and this album is totally part of it. It is based and created in Berlin, and the music describes how i live in it.

Do you tend to take a different approach when you are collaborating with someone else rather than in your own?

I believe in collaborations for my music. I think it really helps me to go forward when building ideas sometimes. It also makes the music more beautiful and interesting. Especially when I need vocals because that’s something I cannot do.

Any plans to hit the road?

I would love that. This album is kinda a new start for me and I’d love to to continue doing it. The plan is to do some live shows and present the album, but I’ll wait for the release to come out first.

What else is happening next in Hior Chronik’s world?

I have a tour with some live shows in Europe and working on my new album for 7K, but I want to focus on my “Descent “ album now. I’m really happy to be part of Christian Loffler’s ensemble and I’m looking forward to playing again soon.
