CD REVIEW: God Bless The Queens by Gabe Lopez

It comes as no surprise that the pop-rock genre has gotten popular over the years. With bands such as Fall out Boy, Panic at the Disco and Green Day, just to name a few, paving the way for those that will follow in their path. American singer/songwriter and producer Gabe Lopez did just that. Born in Santa Barbara, Ca, Lopez has performed in venues all around Los Angeles. Lopez first came onto the spotlight as a songwriter and producer for American Idol contestants Jim Verraros and Angela Peel. Signed to Spectra Music Group as an artist and Universal Music Group as a songwriter, Lopez has written and produced for the ever so iconic, Belinda Carlisle, as well as other artists that include New Kids on the Block, Joey McIntyre, Krayzie Bone, Charice Tyler Hilton, Dream note and grand master of funk James Brown. He then ventured off into writing and co-producing albums of his own. Lopez’s song “Sunday Summertime” put him on the map as being the end-of-day montage of winners in the 2008 Olympics. His anti-Prop. 8 song “No Hate” off the Shine Like the Sun album was a single that has been widely used by the NO H8 campaign. It’s surely no surprise that Gabe Lopez was voted as one of Music Connection Magazine’s Hot 100 artists. He’s toured across the U.S. and U.K. opening up for Belinda Carlisle on her 2014-2017 tours at venues such as the Indigo at the O2, Manchester Academy, Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, The Fonda and B.B. King’s NYC. His latest album, God Bless the Queens consists of 12 powerful, energetic tracks, each to give listeners a vibrant feeling.

Gabe Lopez’s style is versatile. He includes electronic touches as well as fluid guitar melodies that match his charismatic and soulful voice. The songs on God Bless the Queens alter between melancholy ballads that almost read out like a poem and convey a positive message to listeners. He then manages to tie in electronic rock elements that are guaranteed to get anybody up off their feet. It is amazing to see what Gabe Lopez has accomplished with this album. He manages to co-exist two different genres and blend them into one comfortably and effortlessly.

Gabe Lopez’s new single “Lasso” takes on a true rock feel with his gritty tone and strong guitar riffs. This song is about a love affair that quickly turns problematic, with lyrics such as “baby, my wrists are cut, I’m bleeding”, Gabe Lopez gives us a personal and true feel which is an emotion we can all relate to. This record has a track we can all replay and never get sick of. Whether you’re in the mood to dance or simply rock out Gabe’s new album God Bless the Queens is available for pre-order on iTunes and a Spotify link is dropping soon. It will be available for sale through the Spectra Music Group on Nov. 9, 2018.
