INTERVIEW: Tripzy Leary & G Dubz

Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Really good over here, been pretty busy and in full hermit mode in the studio, grinding real hard on developing some new sounds for the next record release, which will likely be an all original or partial collab release.

“Very well, so far best year of my life! thanks.”

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Sweet Earth”?

Sweet Earth is directly a Empowerment track from my perspective of the production. Featuring Northern Cree War Chants mixed with North Western Cree Sweet Earth Singers, underneath is a classic dub tune with classic wobbles. The intro is a warped dimensional transmission and this is our transmission to the other side.

My sister gave me a cd one day and I wasn’t sure what I was in for.  She spoke to the clan who produced this record called “sweet earth singers” and gave us the go for using one of their songs. It also came along with a piece of bark. I found the melody really stood out. Capturing a vision of celebration. The Ojibwa. women’s turtle clan from Ontario. I feel like it was a gift between me and Gary and our connection we share. Also happened to fit well on Wakaan representing their sound as well.”

Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?

Basically many years of vision and development and keeping the roots alive.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

Nothing set in stone yet, but this would a very beautiful thing.

Not sure yet. Would be a cool idea. I have other music video plans though!.

The single comes off your new EP Arrival – what’s the story behind the title?

The Sweet Earth Singer vocals were synchronized from Z’s sister and the rest was history for the title being Sweet Earth.

We came up with Arrival to describe how we got to the level were at. Arriving at a higher mind state. We just want fans to know the aliens are here and starting the metamorphosis process!

How was the recording and writing process?

The vocals were pre recorded by the groups and my good homie DJ Shub and his Indigenous Sample Pack he hooked up!

What role does Vancouver play in your music?

West Coast Bass and wobbles are a huge influence in my music since moving here 2013.

Helped me develop as an artist, the community is very rich in bass culture. It was always a dream of mine as a kid to live in Vancouver. Very special spiritual place. In my opinion.

Did the film with the same name influences this album in any way?

Not from my perspective. 🙂

“Not really. Though the sound design is amazing in that movie. Stretched repitched camel recordings. Cool stuff.”

What aspect of earth and the universe did you get to explore on this record?

Many aspects of respect of culture were explored during this album for me. Going back in time with music and getting influences from the music that I started listening to years ago. As well taking care of the earth completely in any way possible. A few outer space adventures took place during the making of this record as well.

“Inter dimensional and apocalypse originated in 2015 when I first got serum VST. They were some of the first sounds I created when wakaan started as a label. In the past year they were revamped by GDubz and Giometric’s vocals and they sound amazing. I realized whatever I make I’m always a few years ahead of myself.

Where else did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?

We found inspiration from similar artists and even our circle of homies. Being abstract with the writing process i believe is why Z and I work so well together because we both feed of off each others process and workflow.

Giometric is an unreal lyricist. Visionary and intelligent. Our subconscious connection together helped formulate these songs. I find it’s like a Devine energy that has pulled us all together. To make these songs. we just make it without really thinking about it And the magic flows like water. Natural manifestation. “

Any plans to hit the road?

Looking forward to some North American bookings, been receiving many request of the USA! Hit up Warpath Agency!

Definitely a huge goal of mine for 2019. Im currently on the eastcoast till next spring!

Looking for bookings across the east coast. Im releasing my own album at the end of the year. Very excited to kick off the new year with a beam!

What else is happening next in Tripzy Leary & G Dubz’s world?

We have a ton of unreleased tunes together so if or when those will ever release is up in the air. I currently have about 2 eps worth of music ready and can’t say much more but look forward to some releases between now and spring!

I have a record label in the works I’m launching in 2020 called Cyberdelics. Branding and merchandising and touring are in the works till then. Looking forward to collaborating with more artists in the industry while expanding into the United States and then the rest of the world.”
