Hey! We’ve been great, thank you. We’ve all been away on various holidays through the Summer – but are now looking forward to pushing our latest EP release and playing some shows!
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Fear of Falling”?
“Fear of Falling” is the second track from our upcoming EP. It has a bit of a heavy blues-rock vibe to the verses, and something that perhaps sounds more like old-school us in the chorus. It’s a track we love playing live already – so we were keen to let people hear this one before the others from the new EP.
Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?
Fear of Falling was written based on the struggles we can have sometimes in life, with trying to find a way to move forwards – but then falling at the last hurdle. There was no particular event that inspired it – but it could certainly be applied to a number of things!
Any plans to release a video for the single?
There will likely be a full music video for this track during 2019, along with a fair few of the others.
The single comes off your new EP Broken Horizons – what’s the story behind the title?
It comes from the idea of us pushing the boundaries further than we have done previously! We feel as though we achieved that already with our debut EP – but would love to continue exceeding our own expectations with every release we do.
How was the recording and writing process?
Most of the songs for this EP were written several weeks and even months beforehand. However – one of them, ‘Wrong Turn’ was only written a few days before. It’s arguably one of our favourite tracks from the EP!
How Shinedown and Alter Bridge has influence your music?
Mark Tremonti is one of Chris’ major inspirations, and even though our playing styles are very different, you may hear a riff here and there that fits into that bracket! Shinedown’s Brent Smith has been one of Chris’ favourite vocalists out there for many years.
Where did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?
Sometimes ideas pop into your mind while going about everyday life! It’s amazing how, in a way – events unrelated to music can become a part of an actual song later on. You’ll hear many of our musical influences throughout our songs,
although we like to try and stick to our own sound as much as possible to keep things interesting!
Any plans to hit the road?
We plan on hitting the road all through 2019 – and would love to come and play some other cities in Europe too, so we’re keeping that on the radar for next year too!
What else is happening next in State of Ember’s world?
The band’s track ‘Denial’, from the previous EP – features in video game Wreckfest, which is to be released to consoles on November 20th 2018. So this is pretty exciting for us all, especially for Mike since he’s majorly into gaming!
