INTERVIEW: Deedee Walker

Hi Deedee, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Really good thank you! Excited to have my new music out.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Don’t Lie”?

My single ‘Don’t Lie’ is my second release and I wrote the song myself. I was inspired by the lyrics from Adele’s ‘Someone Like You’ and Whitney Houston’s ‘I Will Always Love You’.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

The film Runaway Bride inspired me to write this song! Also, the Whitney and Adele songs previously mentioned. I wanted to write a touching and meaningful song that meant something to people.

How was the recording and writing process?

The recording process went really well. My producer understood my vision on what song I wanted to create, and as soon as he played the keys the first line came to my head which was “you said you would love me” from there I just let the music flow and lyrics flow!

What role does your hometown of Hertfordshire play in your writing?

I always gig in London and I spend a lot of time there. The performers in London probably play a role in my writing because London is a big place full of different unique people, and full of people with a dream – like me.

How your upbringing has influence your music?

I grew up listening to Alicia Keys, Whitney Houston and Michael Jackson and they really did inspire me, especially Alicia Keys with how she plays the piano. She is so soulful.

Michael Jackson made songs with meaning – like me favourite ‘You Are Not Alone’.

Whitney Houston’s voice was so powerful; I’d always pretend I’m doing a duet with her, with the song ‘When You Believe’.

What are your plans for after the single release?

My plans are to do another Reload Session, and perform my single around London venues and promote the song everywhere!

What else is happening next in Deedee’s world?

2019 you will see a lot more music coming from me, including an E.P and a more singles. I’m looking forward to especially the writing process.
