Los-Angeles based producer, multi-instrumentalist, singer, and emcee Calvin Valentine is on the heels of his critically acclaimed Mello Music Group solo debut album Keep Summer Safe, released on September 14th. Today, he shares the music video for album single “KSS” via SoulBounce, an animated journey that takes the audience through a day in the life of Valentine, aka the Bong Mayer. About the video, Calvin comments: “I wanted the video for ‘KSS’ to bring the artwork of Joe Baker to life. Joe has done the cover art/design for my last two solo albums and he’s one of the most creative and hardworking artists I’ve had the pleasure of collaborating with. I think the video speaks for itself. Enjoy this trippy ride into the life of Bong Mayer.”
Keep Summer Safe is a ten-track collection that provides joyous relaxation for listeners; a stoner’s haven for eclectic sounds and vibes. A summer night stoney hip-hop classic, the LP proves that Calvin is one of this generation’s new multi-talented breeds. Valentine lends his lush production, singing, and rhymes for a sound that mixes chilled out R&B and melodic hip-hop vibes in this collection of stoney tracks, described by Calvin himself as “ever evolving music for your soul”.
Valentine is best known in the beat scene for his uncompromising work behind the boards. The Eugene, Oregon native began playing drums at age 6 – and by 19, he was playing Warped Tour with his band Medium Troy. In addition for producing for big industry names like De La Soul, Nas, and Ryan Beatty, he’s also worked with the likes of Bun B, Devin The Dude, Juicy J, Boogie, and Dilla’s younger brother, Illa J. His 2016 album, Eugene, was the first major stark declaration of his singular talent; the work of an artist fiercely aware of what made him, who is is, what he loves, and where he’s going. His new full-length Keep Summer Safe is surely his most ambitious work to date.
