INTERVIEW: Deadbots

Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Hi Vents. Great to meet you guys. We’ve been good. We are just back from Canada where Nina is from. Fighting the aul’ jet lag and currently sitting beside a fire today back in Dublin.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Love Unlimited”?

It was an easy choice to have as the first single off the new album. It’s a melodic, disco-laden, dreamy chugging track, featuring disco bass enthusiast Ian McFarlane on bass.

The track was lovingly mixed by synth aficionado The Emperor Machine who also did a special edit of the track.

Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?

The event that was the late 70s early 80s of disco and early house and techno music.

Why naming the album after this track in particular?

As we choose it as the debut single off the album it made sense to call the album the same thing.

How was the recording and writing process?

It was an absolute pleasure as always, if it wasn’t we wouldn’t do it. Yes the process has its ups and downs, malfunctioning equipment, moody synthesizers, blown tubes, dodgy plugs, shitty audio cables, but somehow we always manage to bring everything together into something we think isn’t too offensive.

What role does Dublin play in your music?

Definitely the scene has inspired us both. Dublin, it’s people, the clubs, the culture, our lives within it. Dublin is our home and we are very humble that she’ll have us.

Do you tend to take a different approach when you are collaborating with someone else rather than in your own?

We rarely collaborate but when we did in the past it was mostly online so the writing processes never really changed. It was just back and forth by email until everyone was happy.

What aspect of love did you get to explore on this record?

As with any good love, it’s not forced and it happens naturally. This really was the case with all the songs. They just came to be. The music formed its relationship with us.

Any plans to hit the road?

Yes we do. The next step it putting a killer live show together which we hope to tour along with Deadbots DJ sets.

What else is happening next in DEADBOTS world?

Between getting the new live audio visual show and DJ set together, and making sure everything is ready to go on our website (as we are self releasing November 5th EXCLUSIVELY on www.deadbotsmusic.com, NO I-tunes, NO spotify, No beatport) we will be kept busy. We also have to walk the dog.

Deadbots debut album Love Unlimited is out 5th November exclusively on www.deadbotsmusic.com.
