PREMIERE: SPLOCO release live session recorded in Edinburgh’s legendary independent music venue, Henry’s Cellar Bar

Today, SPLOCO returns with their new live session recorded at Edinburgh’s oldest independent music venue, and their beloved musical home, Henry’s Cellar Bar. VENTS is pleased to team up with the band for the release of their live version of “Acting Like A Child” off the aforementioned session.

Its not surprising SPLOCO decided to record their music live – because that’s where the real magic happens: described by Sneaky Pete’sas ‘madly energetic’ they play a combination of noise-pop, alt-rock and with a touch of disco thrown in. They are led by American football coach, Mike, (real identity unknown) who draws his audience into the strange world of theatrical financial consultancy and motivational speaking alongside the fresh beats and catchy riffs.

Their songs are simple, melodic and danceable – yet bizarrely confused. Beginning with a heartfelt love song set in the financial districtof London, followed by a surprisingly catchy instrumental tune for which the only lyrics are “Phil Collins!” the video ends with Mike doing a Busted jump as the band lead into a disco coda – a reference so out of place it beggars belief. Maybe there is some meaning to it all, drenched in irony and lurking twenty layers beneath the music – but it seems unlikely that even the band know…

When they are not gigging SPLOCO are working on their brand – lead guitarist, Doe, who claims to be an ordained pastor in the U.S., produces all their handmade merchandise and artwork, spending hours each night on his sewing machine. Meanwhile, frontman Coach Mike looks likely to split from the band before they’ve even reached fame, due to his budding success as an Instagram influencer (due to contractual issues we cannot share this here).
