Will Griffith of The Great Dying admits, “It took a long time to get started.”, and “This is a record about mistakes.” He’s made music constantly since his teens either alone or with miscreant metalheads and punks in his hometown of Cleveland, MS. Griffith feels with ‘Bloody Noses & Roses’ he has a collection of songs that cover the breadth of his musical interests and attitudes toward life.

Keen to cut a record, Griffith came to know Matt Patton (Drive-By Truckers) and Bronson Tew, co-owners of Dial Back Sound in Water Valley, MS. The trio discussed the cinematic quality to the songs which Griffith says he picked up from favorites such as Iron & Wine. As a production team, Patton & Tew referenced everything from Townes Van Zandt and Blaze Foley to Dead Moon and The Stooges to give the songs the feel of a broken spirit or a set of bloody knuckles.

With the record cut and sent to press, Will has booked his first tour for the month of October, ahead of the November 16, 2018 release. He’s optimistic. He adores playing and is looking to share. Though it may surprise some, he is outgoing for someone who says he’s “hopefully reaching for light in self-designed darkness” and “wants to take a stab at honest suffering in order to achieve true happiness.”
