Electro-Pop Powerhouse, Car Astor, Releases “Girlfriend”

Electro-pop powerhouse Car Astor (formerly known as SEE) has just released her newest single “Girlfriend” on Ghettoblaster Magazine who raved about the track saying, “Not only is the song swelling with anger, it’s upbeat and completely danceable.”

“Girlfriend”, written with Kirsten Maxwell and produced with Walter Kazmier, marks new territory for Car Astor, “It’s the first song I’ve written from this angry emotion and it’s also probably the most upbeat and dance-y song I’ve ever done!”

Starting at the otherworldly synth swagger of its opening line, this new single elicits a visceral need to move. The songs irrepressible pop-powered melody and lyrics keep your brain laser focused while the riotous layers of reverb-heavy and serrated synthesizers consume the rest of your body. Car Astor explains the lyrical origin, “‘Girlfriend’ is about a very confusing emotional relationship I was caught in for this past year,” explains the Long Island, NY -based Car Astor. “I met someone and we had a very obvious connection, but they were seeing someone else, so it got really messy. This song was written during an angry moment, so I’m really just trying to relay exactly how I felt and to be as honest and straightforward as possible.”

“Since I was 13 I was a drummer,” she says about her musical development. “I never thought I would become a singer. I always assumed someone else would be singing.” But since necessity is the mother of invention, Car took matters into her own hands. She adds, “I was writing all of the music in a band and the singers weren’t all that great. I couldn’t find anyone else. I was frustrated and I gave it a shot.” From there, Car Astor’s musical development took a right turn for the better, leading to the release of her breakout single, “Potions“, which grabbed over 6.5 million views on YouTube and 800k streams on Spotify.

“The biggest motivation is me talking honestly and openly about my life and experiences,” she continues, citing wordsmiths such as Neil Young, Coldplay’s Chris Martin, and Fleetwood Mac’s Stevie Nicks as lyrical inspiration. “I really admire artists who write incredible songs, ones that can be amazing with production, or ones that can make magic with just one instrument. I also admire artists who are very raw and honest, so I try to emulate all of those things as best as I can.”

In addition to “Girlfriend,” Car Astor has more music to be released before the year is out, as well as an EP in the works for release in 2019! You can catch her at Mercury Lounge in New York City on November 25th.
