L.A. based filmmaker, musician, and Youtuber Julen the Human has just debuted a video for his new single, “Time.” The video, which was the product of a lengthy Kickstarter campaign, and that also features Julen’s directorial talents, is a bizarre trip that attempts to peel back the layers of our experience of time.
EQMusicBlog, who premiered the clip, not only praised Julen’s work as a cinematographer, but also his “contagious enthusiasm” for the form, and his ability as a “gifted singer-songwriter.”
“Time” reflects the gradual and overwhelming realization that time waits for no one, and the feeling of wasting one’s youth by fear of making the wrong decisions. With these thoughts in mind, Julen began to formulate a concept for a short film, a visual companion to his existential narrative. A story about a masked figure emerged, a figure on the hunt for the same person across parallel realities, topped off with a profound twist.
“I wanted to create a narrative and aesthetic that would denote the underlying, visceral emotion; juxtaposing the wistful tune with dynamic, hard hitting visuals,” says Julen. “From its conception to its fruition and the community that came together to make it possible, this project transcended the traditional approach to music videos.”
The release of “Time” is just one aspect of the multi-media presence Julen the Human is beginning to build for himself. In addition to songwriting, Julen is an active creator on YouTube, a platform that allows him to wax philosophical on topics such as “Identity,” “The Meaning of Life,” and “Communication.” With a budding subscriber base, and a steady stream of content on its way, Julen hopes to enlighten those seeking the answers to life’s big questions in both an intelligent and lighthearted way that combines his passions for filmmaking, art, music, and philosophy into a unified whole.
