INTERVIEW: Jared Dylan

Hi Jared, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Fine, thanks.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Can’t Stop”?

Sure, what do you want to know?

Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song

This song comes more from acceptance than experience.  But I’ve learned acceptance through my experience.  When I think of Can’t Stop, I am brought back to college parties, jam sessions, studio time and just trying to make sense of and enjoy those moments.

How was the filming process and experience behind the video?

The Can’t Stop video was very exciting and happened so fast.  I was in the studio with Paddy Casey working on a completely different song for a completely different soundtrack and between vocal and guitar takes I would jump back and forth between the control and live rooms in Grouse Lodge Studios to shoot bits for Can’t Stop.  It was the first time I got to collaborate with Kilian Pettit (Director) and he kept the whole thing moving like clock work.  After Paddy and I had finished our demo, Kilian, myself and the rest of our film crew took off to Dublin to finish shooting.  It was my first time in Dublin, it was cold, and I had to dance in alleyways and street corners for hours.  It was all so fun and went by so quickly.  I just remember getting back to the studio at 2am, packing up and heading to London at 4am for an 11 am writing session… ahh good times.

How was the recording and writing process?

I had plans to stay in LA for 10 days and write as much music as possible.  Day 1, Can’t Stop was started, finished, and added to the vault.  The entire Consequence concept album was actually recorded in those 10 days and later became the Consequence soundtrack.

How movies does influences your music and the other way around?

Well, any song I write is, on some level, intended to be a soundtrack; whether it is for film or everyday life.  Both the audible and visual stories kind of evolve in my head at the same time.  Every sound has its vibe, every vibe has its color scheme.  The tricky part is taking what’s in there and making it real.

Any particular film score influence this song?

Good question.  Difficult question.  I was traveling a lot at the time and was watching a lot of airline entertainment.  So maybe Moana?

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

Uhh.. yea! I’m constantly working on new material. Consequence and it’s accompanying short film will premiere in Dublin (Tower Records) October 19.  And In 2019 you can expect a new single every six weeks.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

Silly Love Songs LP – September 2019.

Any plans to hit the road?

That is the plan.  It kind of feels like I’m on a never ending tour.  But I’ve been touring North America and Ireland pretty aggressively for the past 6 months.

What else is happening next in Jared Dylan’s world?

I’m working on a documentary right now with Zinc Media (Bob Geldof) called ‘Experiencing Music,’ exploring the history and influence of Irish music.  I’ve had the chance to speak and work with some of the most talented Irish artists.  You can expect to see that in February, 2019.
