Indigo Lo recently made a welcome return after a year of meticulous recording with new single, I Hate The Sun, available now on Ignition Records. The Hampshire-based four-piece follow their debut single, A World That Turns, with a four-minute cut of reflective rock, clearing a path for a frenetic period of new releases and touring. Today they reveal the blistering video to accompany the single – directed and produced by Phil Smithies.
I Hate The Sun typifies the melancholic, psych-streaked sounds streaming from the band’s sessions with producer Matt Jones, mixed byTom Dalgety and the creative energy of singer, guitarist and songwriter, Joe Grimshaw. The dark lyrical tone offset by wiry riffs and the piston-like rhythm section welcome fans back into Indigo Lo’s complexities, borne of the deep-thinking front man. “It’s about those days when you don’t want to go out. I was leaving the house a lot less at the time I wrote it,” Grimshaw says.
Sparks of inspiration breaking out in his own studio set-up grow into wide-lens, electric compositions, layered-up by the accomplished playing of long-term band mate Max Palmier (drums and formerly of Dolomite Minor alongside Grimshaw), Chris Smallwood (bass) andTom Greenwood (guitar). Having concentrated on recording throughout 2018, Indigo Lo plan to spend significant time on the road for the remainder of the year and well into 2019. Having recently played London dates at The Lexington and Sebright Arms, their next live show will be in Southampton on October 20th at Heartbreakers. More live dates to be announced soon.
