Mark Edgar Stuart Releases New Music Video For “Mad At Love”
Memphis master songwriter Mark Edgar Stuart songs are never about what you think they’re about on first listen (much like his Nashville counterpart Todd Snider). ‘Mad At Love’ is his most adult album, tackling complicated, hard struggles of middle-aged couples and people. the title track is written from the point of view of a widow who lost her husband to cancer; “Missing You Everyday” concerns a widow who lost her husband in Afghanistan and a little while later his bass had fallen over and smashed into a million pieces on its own. “Barren Love” is about staying together for the sake of a child. “I’ll Be Me” concerns which identity of someone struggling with addiction is real: the sober one or the version with drugs in his system. “Until We Came Unglued” is about a couple having trouble relating to one another after losing a beloved pet. (Gosh, a lot of loss on this album.)
His “Miss America” seems to be about the inaccessibility of high standards of beauty in America but it’s really about navigating the health insurance-industrial complex or “Myra Gale” from the point of view of Jerry Lee Lewis’ 2nd cousin/child bride.
